The information in this article regarding PWM on the Pixel 4XL is only SLIGHTLY correct! The earliest production units of this phone did indeed only have PWM below 62% brightness. However, and later production units and replacement displays have PWM at ALL brightness levels! Also, the speakers on this phone are terrible in terms of reliability! I use the speakers for music only once in a blue moon while in bed if I need a song to shut down my brain, and thus listen at a low level. When using navigation, the volume is higher at around 70%. My original phone with the PWM at lower levels only, had horrible distortion occur in both speakers, and of course phone calls with the earpiece and very distorted navigation directions. I had the phone service, and just the replacement of both speakers did not resolve the distortion issue. So the repair shop thought the motherboard should be replaced, and since I wanted to keep the phone a very long time, he installed a new battery and display. Well, the new display now had PWM at all levels. The motherboard change did resolve the speaker distortion issue. I begged the technician to install my old screen back in since it hadn't been shipped out yet, and he refused. I went through Google and had to jump through a lot of hoops, but eventually they sent me a brand new phone sealed in its box (not a refurb.). Well, this phone has PWM at all levels, so I look at the screen as little as possible. But now, the earpiece/speaker is starting to distort although my volume level on phone calls is only about 60%. Based on the first phone, the bottom speaker which handles ring and all other notification sounds and navigation direction will not be far behind in crapping out. The Pixel 6 looks way to expensive and I'm not trusting the Pixel hardware any longer. I don't know what to do at this point as I'm not a rich person who can constantly upgrade/update my phone.
